The software CD, which doubles as both an installation CD and a scanner, connects with the F-Secure site, downloads the virus database and scans the local machine without installing the software. This is a very handy way to clean and repair an unknown or unstable system. The CD's antivirus scanner checked the entire test system (clean) at the CRN Test Center—more than 55,600 files in less than 30 minutes.

F-Secure leverages its DeepGuard technology using behavior analysis to kill all dangerous processes automatically and immediately. If a process is ambiguous, a pop-up box asks users to identify the program, which means that the malware will get zapped if it tries to execute.

Nothing happened when installing malware executables, which was perplexing until a look at the logs revealed that Internet Security 2008 prevented them from launching at all. There was no notification that the movie file was actually a Trojan in disguise.

The desktop firewall automatically configures recognized applications, such as Firefox, and displays a prompt only for unknown applications.
