Eucalyptus Taking Partners Into The Cloud1:16 PM EST Wed. Jun. 23, 2010
Open-source private cloud software maker Eucalyptus Systems this week launched a full-fledged partner program aimed at driving cloud computing opportunities for systems integrators, resellers, service providers and platform companies in the growing cloud ecosystem.
The partner program launch for Eucalyptus comes as Gartner predicts the cloud services market will hit more than $68 billion in 2010 and rise to nearly $150 billion come 2014. An official channel program for Eucalyptus also follows last week's release of the company's updated Enterprise Edition 2.0, which adds a host of new features and functions, including Windows support, it its enterprise private cloud software.
At the center of Eucalyptus' new partner program is the Eucalyptus Partner Cloud, a dedicated cluster of high performance servers running Eucalyptus cloud infrastructure software that is available to partners for development and testing of their Eucalyptus-based offerings.
“On the Eucalyptus Partner Cloud our partners can develop and test-drive their Eucalyptus solutions on a state-of-the-art computing cloud. The interest in these partnering opportunities has beaten all our expectations," Eucalyptus CEO Marten Mickos said.
The Partner Cloud lets top-level Eucalyptus partners launch isolated collections of virtual machine instances and exercise the full capabilities of the latest version of Eucalyptus. The Partner Cloud is hosted at Coresite and lets partners use command-line tools, build and run images and test other third-party software.
The Eucalyptus partner program will feature three partner levels: Platinum, Gold and Silver, with each offering different sets of products and services. Platinum Partners receive engineering support, Enterprise Edition licenses, certified training, customer Partner Cloud access and co-marketing. Meanwhile Gold Partners receive support including Enterprise edition licenses, standard support and Partner Cloud access and the free Silver Partner Level offers access to the Eucalyptus community cloud and co-marketing activities.
Along with launching its official partner program, Eucalyptus also revealed that it has joined HP's Developer and Solution Partner Program (DSPP), meaning Eucalyptus will work with HP to deliver tailor-made cloud solutions. Eucalyptus users will now be able to implement its private cloud technology on HP computing and storage hardware.
