The Best-Selling Products Of 20114:00 PM EST Thu. Apr. 19, 2012
The following slides represent the top-selling product SKUs through distributors in a range of product categories from 2010 to 2011 through distributors, according to the NPD Group. (The NPD Group's Distributor Track sales database is comprised primarily of U.S. Global Technology Distribution Council members.) Some categories might appear to have surprising winners, which could be attributed to the fact that some vendors have many SKUs for a similar product, while others offer only a few SKUs, which helps boost sales for that more common SKU.
HP LaserJet P2055dn
HP had the top 10 best-selling SKUs in 2011 with the P2055dn, a 35-ppm model, as the top seller. Meanwhile, four versions of the P4015 cracked the top 10, including the P4015n, which was the best-seller in 2010.
HP LaserJet M3035xs
HP wasn't quite as dominant in multifunction printers as it was in the monochrome single-function category, but it was still the top dog. The company had five of the top 10 best-selling models, led by the M3035xs.
HP LaserJet CP4525dn
HP's LaserJet CP4525dn, a 42-ppm unit, was the top-selling model in 2011, ahead of eight other HP single-function color laser printers that populated the top 10.
HP LaserJet CM6040f
HP makes it four for four in the printer category, thanks to the LaserJet CM6040f, the top-selling unit in the color laser multifunction category. HP again dominated the category with eight of the top 10 best-selling products, including the top six.
Apple iMac Core i5/2400S
Apple had the best-selling desktop SKU in 2011, in part because other vendors offered many more SKUs for sale but also because Apple includes an LCD monitor with its computers, adding to the dollar volume generated. The top-selling unit according to NPD was an iMac Core i5/2400S with a 2.5GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 21.5-inch LCD monitor.
HP ProBook 4530s
With fewer SKUs available, Apple dominated the notebook category with six of the top 10 best-selling models, but HP's ProBook 4530s was the overall top-selling notebook in 2011, in terms of dollar volume generated.
Cisco has long dominated this category and 2011 was no exception. The SKU that generated the most sales last year was the ASA 5510 Security Plus Firewall Edition appliance. Another Cisco product, the ASA 5520 VPN appliance, finished second.

Cisco replicated its performance in the wired routers category by capturing the top 10 best-selling switches in 2011, according to the NPD Group. Leading the way was the Cisco Catalyst WS-C3750X, a 48-port 10/100/1000 Ethernet model with Power over Ethernet.
Polycom HDX Media Center 7000
Polycom was the big player in the videoconferencing market in 2011, according to the NPD Group, accounting for four of the top six best-selling SKUs, including the HDX Media Center 7000, a member of the company's popular HDX family that includes twin 42-inch LCD displays.
HP 146 GB Serial Attached SCSI 15K RPM HD
HP captured the top-selling hard drive for the second consecutive year, perhaps thanks in large part to its dominance in the PC space. In the most recent results, the top seller was a 146-GB serial-attached SCSI 15K RPM drive.

This 32-inch Sony Bravia LCD model was the top-selling display less than 40 inches in 2011, beating out a Sony 40-inch model for the No. 1 spot. Overall, Sony had seven of the top 10 best-selling models.

First, it should be noted that the NPD Group does not publicly release Apple iPad sales data, so iPad figures are not included in this category. Take Apple out of the mix and the Motorola Xoom, a 10.1-inch 32-GB tablet, was the best-seller in 2011.
Symantec Norton 360 5.0
Symantec Norton 360 5.0, a three-user SKU, was the best-selling security suite in 2011, according to the NPD Group. Symantec also had four other security suites in the top 10.
