Sonus Networks Eyes SIP Expansion, Enterprise Push5:57 PM EST Mon. Jul. 02, 2012
Westford, Mass.-based Sonus Networks is stepping up its enterprise game.
The session initiation protocol (SIP) infrastructure specialist is making a push toward the enterprise market, according to Todd Abbott, senior vice president at Sonus. Abbott said in an interview with CRN TV that SIP technology is a key ingredient for higher-quality unified communications.
"SIP really is the key technology that's going to enable the different applications within unified messaging and unified communications that, for all intents and purposes, have not been unified," Abbott said.
Abbott also said Sonus is seeing growing interest for SIP in the enterprise space. Sonus recently agreed to acquire Network Equipment Technologies (NET) to broaden its enterprise networking offerings, and Abbott said his company is looking to build up its channel presence in the enterprise market.
"The enterprise is going to be the primary driver of the adoption of SIP," he said. "At the end of the day, technology gets adopted when it has significant business impact to enterprises."
