Box Targets Enterprise With Cloud Security, Management Tools2:35 PM EST Tue. Oct. 02, 2012
Cloud storage company Box on Tuesday rolled out new security features and management tools in a partnership with security vendor Proofpoint as part of it continuing effort to attract enterprise customers.
Box said the partnership with Proofpoint will add security, compliance and control features to manage documents shared through Box.
The enhanced features will allow IT administrators to isolate and remove restricted content from shared folders. Box, using Proofpoint’s security as a service, will be able to scan files, and if it finds content in violation of policy, it will notify the administrator.

Box is also offering advanced search features for administrators to find information and see how files are shared within and outside their company. With the feature, files can be searched by content type, file name, date range, size and context.
In addition, Box is adding business intelligence tools to its platform, giving administrators insight into their company's content and providing information to aid in the management of assets and operations.
Box has targeted the enterprise space with its cloud storage offering, saying it has more than 11 million users worldwide.
"In order to meet demand, we need to have enterprise features," Robin Daniels, head of Enterprise Product Marketing at Box, said in an interview with CRN. "This about how we are scaling and meeting the demands of our customers around the world for security and management features. These companies need to know we've got their back."
Proofpoint, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., provides email security, data loss prevention, privacy protection, email encryption, electronic discovery and email archiving.
In September, Box announced a worldwide content-sharing network aimed at enterprises in need of fast data transfer. The network, called Box Accelerator, includes nine new points of presence (PoPs) in North America, Europe, Australia, Asia and South America as well as new network optimization technology.
Box said it will announce additional products at its BoxWorks 2012 conference October 7-9 in San Francisco.
