The Daily App, NOAA

If today’s Daily App is not already a part of your hurricane preparation tool kit, and keeping tabs on the weather is of interest, then NOAA SuperRes Radar US+ for iOS is for you. The app provides animated radar tracking and weather forecast prediction directly on a mobile device.

The developers of NOAA SuperRes Radar US+, Shuksan Software, specialize in software solutions for the delivery and visualization of geolocated scientific data. NOAA was created so that the public could have four times the resolution of typical weather radar products. The $1.99 app uses the device's GPS location to provide current weather condition readouts as well as seven-day forecasts, which can be accessed by long-tapping the radar map. Searching for a location can also be done manually by entering the zip code, city name or address.

NOAA SuperRes Radar US+ also offers hourly-predicted radar readings and severe weather information such as flash flood, tornado and thunderstorm warnings. The warning box tab displays warning messages from the National Weather Service; however, they are not push alerts: The app must be running in order to view the messages. Other features include cloud cover and satellite imagery for the U.S., advanced radar layers, multiple map styles such as terrain, satellite and hybrid, and it can display the time of radar images either as absolute time or relative to the current time.
