Dell on Wednesday said it has appointed as its new president of Dell Services a former top executive of Wipro, the huge India-based services company.

Suresh Vaswani, the new president of Dell Services, will succeed Steve Schuckenbrock in that post. Dell on Wednesday said Schuckenbrock plans to leave Dell to seek other opportunities.

A Dell spokesperson said that Schuckenbrock's planned exit is a friendly departure from Dell. Schuckenbrock, who joined Dell in 2007 and served as president of Dell's large enterprise business and as CIO in the past, plans to work with Vaswani through March of next year to transition leadership of Dell Services, the spokesperson said.

Vaswani, aged 52, joined Dell in 2011, and led Dell Services' application and business process outsourcing (BPO) line of business. Prior to joining Dell, Vaswani was a 25-year veteran of Wipro, where he served as the co-CEO of Wipro's IT business and was on the Board of Wipro Limited.

Vaswani will report to Chairman and CEO Michael Dell, and will be responsible for corporate and government end-to-end IT services and business solutions.

Vaswani takes over as president of Dell Services during a time of transition for that business.

Dell, which last month reported its fiscal third quarter financials, reported services revenue of about $2.1 billion, flat compared to the second quarter and down about 1 percent from the same period as last year.

The Dell spokesperson said Dell attributed the drop in services revenue in part to "challenging macroeconomic conditions." The spokesperson also said that security, support and deployment services revenue rose compared to last year, and that Dell has been pruning unprofitable services contracts. As a result, Dell has had six straight quarters of rising margins in its services business.

Dell last month also reorganized its enterprise solutions business with the setting up of a new organization focusing on converged and enterprise workloads.
