In a move to increase its capability across heterogeneous networked attached storage (NAS) environments, EMC announced Wednesday that it has acquired Rainfinity, whose technology delivers read/write access to Windows, Linux and Unix-based files.
EMC said the acquisition, which it expects to close this month, is valued at less than $100 million. The 60 employees of Rainfinity will remain at the privately-held firm’s facilities in San Jose, Calif.
An ECM spokesman said Rainfinity’s virtualization software will enable users to easily move files among servers.
In another development, EMC said it had acquired the assets of storage switch maker Maranti Networks.
