Compact discs and digital video discs don't come across as incredibly challenging offerings for government agencies to get their hands on. But like any other product acquired by Uncle Sam, these commodity goods have to meet the stringent guidelines set forth by the Trade Agreement Act (TAA), which requires that products be manufactured or substantially transformed in approved counties.
Beyond that, agencies likes choice when deciding between any IT offerings -- even the most standard. With the release of optical media designed to comply with the TAA, Imation has met both of these expectations.
Manufactured in the United States and Hong Kong, the Imation Government Series features CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD+R discs. The CD offerings are available in 10-disc packages with slim jewel cases, and 25-, 50- and 100-pack spindles. Users can store data, digital images and multimedia presentations with the CD-R option, creating discs in CD-R discs in less than 4 minutes at 52x speed.
The DVD offerings include native capacity of 4.7 GB and maximum write speed of 16x; they are available in 25- and 50-pack spindles.
The Government Series joins other Imation removable media products available on the manufacturer's GSA schedule, including TAA-compliant magnetic tape storage products, diskettes and select flash drives. Prices vary.
