Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft and Tokyo-based Nikon said in a statement that their agreement covers digital cameras made by Nikon as well as "a broad range of other consumer products each company manufactures and sells."

Microsoft is being compensated by Nikon, the companies said, offering no other information on the terms of the deal.

In fact, the vendors shared few other details of the partnership or the products that could result, noting only that the two companies have "a long history of collaborating" with each other on products such as wireless cameras and RAW processing technologies.

"This agreement will extend and enhance our already successful, long-standing collaboration with Nikon, and will allow us to provide even better products to our customers," said Josh Weisberg, director of the Rich Media Group at Microsoft, in the statement.
