Introducing TechCareers (and a careers linkfest!)There's always been a piece missing from ChannelWeb. The web's premiere solution provider community has always needed a robust job board for companies looking for experienced channel professionals, and for quality people in the IT job market. We're finally there. This week we introduce TechCareers. Accessed via our careers page or directly at techcareers.com, the site provides both job opening and resume posting opportunities, focused on the professional IT / channel marketplace. And while we're on the topic, it's high time for a careers linkfest! Let's start with the 2005 CRN Compensation special report and salary calculator-- but don't get too comfortable--the 2006 report is coming June 26! On 'The Buzz', Heather Clancy looks at recent research on tech wages: "Hourly wages for technology professionals continued to rise in the first quarter of this year, after reaching record levels in the fourth quarter of 2005." On the employer side, Digital Connect examines finding the right personnel in the digital convergence space: "The transition to a hybrid skill model can be tough, but Mark Gatti, president of ResiMedia in Chevy Chase, Md., says the move is necessary for companies looking to expand into new markets. "You really do need to be a hybrid professional today," Gatti says. 'You need to be technically competent from an audio-video standpoint and from an information technology standpoint. They're looking for us to do everything for them.'" InformationWeek surveys the IT field and finds: "Is your IT job feeling a little stale? It's a great time to switch companies or even industries, and some emerging fields and technologies could make a change all the more intriguing." And if you lack an IT certification, don't let that hold you back. Pay Gap Closing Between Certified, Noncertified IT Skills Of course, not all is sunny in the IT industry. InformationWeek's National IT Salary Survey reports: "IT pros paint a picture of an uncertain and intensely demanding existence, and one they might not wish on their kids, but one they themselves expect to ride out nicely." While tech pros are wise to worry about ongoing offshoring of technical positions, they also have more prosaic concerns: Tech Pros Worried About Fuel Costs, Job Security: "Job confidence among tech pros [in April] fell 5.1 points to 109.9, compared to a base score of 100. " A spot of good news here: In A Reversal, Feds Says Outsourced Programmers Are Eligible For Assistance Finally, even if you're happily employed, workplace pressures can affect your health and productivity. Heed this advice: "Be smarter at work--slack off! In a world of too much work and too much multitasking, the best way to beat the competition may be to do less."
