The 2007 VARBusiness 500

Business is brisk for the top solution providers in North America. In the past year, the VARBusiness 500 -- announced today -- pulled in $344 billion dollars in revenue, a new record. Likewise, the online VARBusiness 500 special report is our biggest ever, with tools and analysis to show what it means to become one of the industry's elite, and what it takes to stay there.

Start with Lawrence Walsh's look at the issues facing VARBusiness 500 companies, including IT spending, hiring and globalization:

"In 2005... the cash started flowing freely again and [VARBusiness 500] revenue jumped 16.5 percent. The revenue increases reflect the innovative technologies produced by vendors and the superior value-added services delivered by the channel... But times are changing rapidly, and the challenges to continued success are mounting."

Then dive into the full report, including profiles of #1 company EDS, fastest-grower Presidio, and top newcomer Fishnet; a look at the largest vendor company services divisions, including giant IBM Global Services; a look at mergers and acquisitions among the 500; and a feature on the technology choices of the VARBusiness 500 (complete with slide show).

As usual, the online package includes tools such as the advanced search of this year's list and the
historical search
of VARBusiness 500 results from 1995 to today. This year we also provide a map of the 25 Vendor Services companies, and six regional maps of the locations of all of the VARBusiness 500.

As I've wanted to provide these detailed maps, powered by Google, for two years now, I'm particularly happy to see them. I do have to give credit here to Mike Williams excellent Google Maps API Tutorial, which I used extensively in preparing the maps.

Look for continuing coverage this week of the VARBusiness 500 conference and awards, taking place today and tomorrow in New York.
