Microsoft Slots BI Confab in May

By Barbara Darrow, CRN January 12, 2007
Chris Capossela tipped us to this one a couple of months ago, but now it's official: Microsoft will host its first Business Intelligence conference in Redmond in May.

CEO Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Business Division Prez Jeff Raikes and corporate vice president Ted Kummert will speak a the confab.

Kummert has cut quite a swath at Microsoft of late. He was named to take on Paul Flessner's gig late last year.

In late 2005, he assumed some product security responsibilities when Gord Mangione exited.

The year before THAT he took over Microsoft's then-in-flux e-business effort. Anyone remember Jupiter? I didn't think so.

And before that he was at MSN. Here's his Microsoft bio.

CRN has long chronicled Microsoft BI focus. The company's evolving reporting and analysis features both in the Office client apps and servers represent a big threat to such BI powers as Cognos and Business Objects, although those companies continue to stress their cross-platform capabilities as a huge benefit.
