Why You Should Care: IT frustrations can lead some people to break things (Remember that scene from "Office Space?"). Instead, FireScope decided to build things --CMDB and BSM solutions designed to make life easier.
The Lowdown:FiresScope's Web site points out that the company was founded by IT operations executives who were frustrated with the business service management (BSM) offerings by the big guys in the space: Hewlett-Packard, BMC Software, CA and IBM.
Three years later, FireScope has developed what it says is an affordable simple alternative, and now it's looking for solution providers to spread its message.
"What they kept seeing were solutions that were overpriced and very hard to use. The biggest problem was having a dozen or more point solutions, and none communicated between each other. You had to isolate them and then start troubleshooting," said Ryan Counts, FireScope's marking manager.

"We wanted to make life easier on IT staff. Anybody can master it in a few minutes. Our second focus is on open standards. We're the new guy and we wanted to rewrite the rules. There are no costly add-ons. It's very straight forward for customers," he said.
FireScope's solutions can cost one-tenth that of competitors because end users don't need to bring in consultants to understand it and do a lot of maintenance work, Counts said.
"There're a lot of customers out there that have been working with the big four seeing slow response to customer needs. They feel they're seen as a paycheck to the vendor than a customer," Counts said.
FireScope is actively seeking new partners and has invested heavily in a partner portal where VARs can request engineering support or materials and manage deals, Counts said. Now we've reached the point where we can expand horizons and customers look for new opportunities, especially for anything that can save costs within IT."
