Securing The Thumb-top

Like this tidbit from last week. (The dead terrorist leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi died in a bombing in Iraq earlier this month. While he didn't come out alive, authorities found the USB drive in his pants pocket to be in tact and containing a treasure trove of his terror planning secrets.)

Now that we know USB drives are bomb proof, Novell and SecureWave are working on ways to make data equally as bomb proof - by working on a security solution to prevent "improper use" of USB drives inside an enterprise.

Writes Adomo on Novell's Open PR Blog:

Not just the desktop. Document hardware companies across the industry are making printers, scanners and multi-function devices that can upload or download data directly into or from USB drives, whether the system is a stand-alone unit or network attached. This is a great convenience and time saver for many in an enterprise, but it also provides yet another security hole - one that Novell sees as an opportunity.
