The Daily App: ES File Explorer for Android

One area where Android consistently beats other mobile operating systems is in its support of file management – whether it’s a tablet running Honeycomb or a smartphone running an earlier version of Android.

The ability to drill down into a file structure in a device, even if it’s a phone, allows for much easier management of documents, photos, videos or even data logs. It’s not intuitive to Apple’s iOS system, by comparison.

There are Android-based apps that do take advantage of this feature on that platform, and ES File Explorer for Android is a solid one.

A free download from the Android Market, ES File Explorer allows for easy-as-touch copying, pasting, cutting, moving, deleting and renaming of files on a device. It allows for selection of more than one file at a time. Graphically, it provides file-folder-icon display of folders on a device to make navigation easy. It supports transfer of files from one device to another via Bluetooth, and it also supports the cloud-based Dropbox storage service.
