The Daily App: Air GReader For BlackBerry PlayBook

We continue to experience frustration with the alarming dearth of apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook platform, but there are some apps that we find that are must-haves for Research In Motion’s smart tablet.

One of them is Air GReader for BlackBerry PlayBook. An Adobe Air-based app that brings Google Reader to the BlackBerry platform, Air GReader is both elegant and efficient and is a powerful way to access content on the device.

Written by developer Nicolas Chaix, Air Google Reader (as it’s known in long-form) does a nice job of using the BlackBerry PlayBook’s 7-inch screen to allow for different reading configurations of content delivered by the RSS aggregator. Though a bit slow to open up when you first sign in (it takes a minute or two to reach out to the Internet to download all of your subscribed content), it makes up for that by neatly organizing the content.

It’s a free download from the BlackBerry App World online store, and only takes up 543 KB of storage space on the device.

For now, until more apps come along, BlackBerry PlayBook is primarily a content consumption device, and for that reason Air GReader for BlackBerry PlayBook is an app that you may well want to give a whirl.
