The Daily App: Smart Planner For iPhone

Which is why we love Smart Planner for iPhone.

This app, by TeleNav, is a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store. Immediately after download and installation, it essentially married the calendar information with the native mapping application on the iPhone. The result: a map that tells you when your next appointment is and how far away you are from it.

The app also has some other nice features, including a mileage counter that you can click to start at the beginning of a trip. From there, it will add up your miles as you go – again using the mapping feature on the phone itself. (A nifty feature is that you can tell Smart Planner, for example, that you get 51 cents per mile as reimbursement, and it will add it up for you as you go.)

Smart Planner will also let you set the app to keep you on track if you plan to arrive on time to a meeting, or perhaps five minutes early.

In our opinion, this is a perfect example of the kind of app that this generation of smart devices cries out for – that leverages the best aspects of the hardware with nice, simple, straightforward software that just lets you do your job better.
