But some manufacturers are beginning to bring better printing technology to the table in the mobile world, and Samsung has developed a truly simple-yet-elegant app that marries mobile devices to its lineup of wireless-enabled printers.

Samsung Mobile Print is a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store. When presented with an opportunity to make a quick print from a photo taken with an iPhone 4 recently, we were in luck to find a Samsung printer in the room. In the span of less than five minutes, we downloaded and installed the app, clicked on the photo from the iPhone gallery, clicked a big, green "print" button on the app, and bam: there was the photo.

Samsung Mobile Print quickly found the printer on the wireless network, and auto-configured the phone to send the image over the network right to the printer we wanted. There is also a version of the app that works on Android-based devices.

Even in a world where technical advances are fast and furious, people still need hard-copy prints of photos or documents in many cases, and Samsung’s app bridges the gap between client device and printer very nicely.
