The Daily App: QuickLapse for iPhone

We’ve been anxious to try out new video- and photo-based apps for iPhone 4S to see how the software can make good use of the device’s on-board, 8 megapixel camera. We expect over the coming months this will be an area of particular innovation, both big and small.

And so today we’ve decided to take a gander at QuickLapse, a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store that allows for simple, point-and-click, time-lapse photography right over the iPhone. We say it’s a free download, although it doesn’t permit unlimited use unless you add an in-app purchase of 99 cents every single time you want an unlimited time-lapse video.

When we say we are looking for innovation with photography and video on iPhone 4S, we mean technical – although this is an innovative way for the developers to rope you in to paying each time you want to make a video of any significant length. Without paying, Quick Lapse will limit your video to six seconds.

Regardless of cost, this is a decent app for time-lapse video – whether for video security or other reasons. QuickLapse lets you save the video directly to your iPhone, lets you send it directly via email, upload to YouTube or upload directly to Facebook. If you shoot a lot of video with your iPhone, this is an app you may want to consider.
