The Daily App: AndroSensor for Android

With both hardware and software functionality increasing on mobile devices -- seemingly with every new product launch -- keeping tabs on what components are doing is now as important as monitoring app activity.

Understanding how much work the accelerometer is up to, how much light is powering up the screen, understanding sound levels and how much work the device is doing to know its location can all impact device performance. AndroSensor, a free download from the Android Market (supported by in-app advertising), is an app designed to help you monitor everything your Android-based devices are up to.

By developer Fiv Asim, AndroSensor immediately provided component status information on GPS activity, positioning of the accelerometer and gyroscope, brightness of the display light, magnetic field information, orientation, battery status and sound level. (The ambient sound of the room picked up by the device’s microphone was about 39 db, unless someone coughed, then it went up to about 63 db.)

AndroSensor also keeps log information of system activity, which can be exported via email or saved right to the device. The app also allows for log information to be recorded in real time, or the taking of snapshots. In short, AndroSensor allows you to monitor all aspects of an Android device just like an IT manager or solution provider would manage all aspects of a server.
