The Daily App: iLaxPlanner for iPad

We’ve reached a point where there are so many quality organization apps that it’s difficult to call one “the best.” So we won’t. But iLaxPlanner for iPad has so many terrific and unique functions that we needed to give it a try.

iLaxPlanner (which is, let’s face it, a somewhat unfortunate name) does a great job of streamlining tasks, calendars, projects and contacts into a simple, tab-based format for easy navigation. But then it takes you the extra distance: it allows you to delegate tasks to employees who may report to you.

It’s simple. Just tap in information for a specific project (including details like client name, when it’s due, employee responsible for the project, etc.), then enter the specific tasks needed to complete the project, and tap a name on your contact or employee list to send the project or tasks. Others using the same app on an iPad can then import the task and track it on his or her end.

One fly in the ointment if you’re a supervisor: the person on the other end of the assigned task can choose whether or not to accept it. That’s not a technical glitch, but could have ramifications in the workplace.

There are some neat options, including whether to view projects in a Gantt chart or as a list; whether to color-code your clients; importing contacts from your iPad contact list; tagging projects and more.

There are a lot of functions in iLaxPlanner for iPad, which is a $9.99 download from the Apple iTunes App Store. In fact, there’s so much going on that sometimes the app tends to lag a bit in a first-generation iPad. That’s not a deal killer, though.
