The Daily App: TrafficStats for Android

Available bandwidth for bandwidth-intensive apps becomes even more of an issue at public locations – like hotels – that only offer a fraction of what you might get at work or at home. And so a number of different apps will tell you how much available bandwidth there is, and how much bandwidth you’re using. Now, TrafficStats for Android will tell you how much bandwidth each app on your device is using.

A $1.99 download from the Android Market (there is also a limited-functionality “lite” version of this app for free) by developer Solvation, TrafficStats also plots hourly and daily graphs to show you which apps use the most bandwidth at any give point in time or day of the month. This is great data for any number of reasons, including understanding whether apps you don’t even use are sucking too much bandwidth or if there may be, per chance, a security vulnerability in an app or widget.
