The Daily App: Kikin Browser for iPad

A plethora of new Web browsers continue to become available for the mobile platforms, with many appearing to highlight one function or another above all others.

The Kikin Browser for iPad, a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store, could be billed as a “search browser,” as its developer, Kikin, has built search functionality into the app’s fabric – a feature it calls “EasySearch.”

By “long-tapping” any word on any Web page, Kikin will automatically run a Web search of that particular word and provide a menu of Wikipedia entries, dictionary entries, images or videos that may be related. Kikin also provides quick-touch sharing functionality to share a Web page URL via email, Twitter or Facebook.

The “long-tap” may also be used on an address, leading Kikin to call up a Google Maps page of the place in question.

In the URL bar, Kikin also gives you the option of simply typing in a word, a phrase or a name and the browser will run a Google search.

While it’s possible to run searches in other iOS 5-based browsers, Kikin is a choice you’d make if you’d need to run a number of Google searches in a short amount of time. If you do a lot of searching while on the go with your iPad, this is an app that’s worth a look.
