The Daily App: IP Address Widget for Android

IP Address Widget is such a simple, straightforward widget for the Android platform that it’s hard to believe it’s not a standard add-on for devices using that platform.

A free download from the Android Market by developer Megagram, IP Address Widget gives you a quick look on your launcher desktop to the IP address to which you are connected at any point in time.

While less than necessary for a full-blown Android app, this is a perfect use for a widget – a graphical dashboard item that provides you with constant information, status or data of a particular nature at just a glance.

(If you’re not Android versant, you can enable a widget on an Android dashboard by hitting the “+” sign in the upper right of the screen, scrolling to the widget in the bottom menu that emerges, and then simply dragging and dropping that widget to the screen where you want it placed.)

For those who wander in and out of IT environments (say, in an enterprise or on a campus, or from one small office to another), having your IP address visible could save you a few minutes a day in gleaning that information.

And to paraphrase an old saying, if you take care of the minutes, the hours will take care of themselves.
