The Daily App: Teleprompter 2000 for Android

The advent of mobile devices, both smartphones and tablets, has put capabilities into the hands of almost everybody that once were only the province of the well-funded.

From bar-code scanners to IP management tools, to police scanners and HD video, there appears no end in sight for the commoditization of tools that were once out of reach for the masses. Like the teleprompter.

Remember the days when only TV news anchors or political candidates could get their hands on those speech-assistance tools? No more.

On the Android mobile platform, Teleprompter 2000, an app by developer Glarenzie, is a free download from the Android Market and lets you maintain heightened eye contact with your audience while giving a speech of just about any length. A rudimentary app, Teleprompter 2000 nonetheless puts you in control over the speed, color, font and size of the scrolling text. We gave it a try on a Toshiba Thrive 7 Android tablet. (Not only did the app work well, with nice ease of use, we found that the 7-inch form factor makes for a much better teleprompter than similar apps we’ve tried on 10-inch tablets or smartphones.)

Teleprompter 2000 might not help end any anxiety you may have over public speaking, but it can help you get through a speech without index cards or $2,000 for a professional-grade prompter system.
