The Daily App: File Locker Free for iPhone

There are many challenges for some in securing data on a mobile device, either a tablet or a smartphone, and Apple’s devices on the iOS platform are no different.

Of course, Apple does provide password protection for individual iPads or iPhones, but for an additional layer of support for sensitive data – including text, images or other files – you may be considering adding an app.

We looked at File Locker Free for iPhone, a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store, by developer Kyle Buttress. This app is appropriate for its name: it will lock down files on your iPhone into a separate folder on the device. The app itself requires entry of a security code (that you select), and will allow you to protect as many as five files.

Files can be sent directly from an iPhone’s camera, from a network server, from a URL or from text that you enter directly into the app. It supports JPG, GIF and PNG image files; Pages, .txt, .doc and .xls productivity types; MOV, M4V, MP4 video types.
