The Daily App: mSecure

Have you ever taken the time to write down all of your user names and passwords? If so, you were likely surprised at how many credentials are stored in your head. These days, the number of user name/password/URL combinations can be 20 or more per person.

Today's daily app is for IT service providers or individuals handling numerous customers, and for whom the access credentials they're responsible for can easily number in the hundreds. Mobile software developer mSeven Software offers mSecure Password Manager, a management and digital wallet tool for Android, iOS, Mac OS X and Windows that not only stores and manages web site logins and passwords, bank and credit card account numbers and other personal information, but also can generate new passwords based on customized length and complexity parameters.

Data is automatically locked within the app, secured using 256-bit blowfish encryption and automatically backed up to DropBox or other cloud-storage systems. If a device is lost or stolen, data is inaccessible and can be set to self-destruct after failed attempts at access. Encrypted data can be backed up to multiple destinations, attached to an e-mail or saved to an SD card. Data can be saved into customized templates or to any of the 17 included formats. Mobile versions cost $9.95; desktop editions sell for $19.95.
