The Daily App: LogMeIn for Android, iOS

Did I email that file to myself? An all too familiar question to business professionals perhaps, but never fear, LogMeIn is here. Today's Daily App allows Android or iOS smartphones or tablets over WiFi or 3G to remotely control any net-connected computer running Mac OS X or Windows. LogMeIn by LogMeIn Inc. can access files, launch programs, send and retrieve e-mail and access any resource available to the host computer.

The free app for iOS can access two computers. For a cost that starts at $20 a month, LogMeIn Pro works with as many as five computers and adds drag-and-drop file transfer from device to host computer, as well as streaming of HD video and sound. The Android app, called LogMeIn Ignition, costs $26.99.

For security, LogMeIn authenticates connections through its own servers and provides each connected computer with 256-bit encryption key. Remote computers must be on and logged into the LogMeIn server, which can be set for automatic on Windows hosts. Therefore, each session requires two passwords, one for the program and the other for the remote.

For those situations when quick, easy and free screen sharing and control are needed from an Android or iOS device, LogMeIn offers a sturdy and capable choice.
