The Daily App: Sparrow For iOS

If you're a Gmail user looking for a super-fast email client, then today's Daily App might be for you. From the developers at SparrowSAS comes Sparrow, a tweet-inspired Gmail client that works with both iPads and iPhones, with a version that's also available for Mac OS X.

When first launching the app, all the user need enter is an email address and password. Sparrow immediately flies to the appropriate site and synchronizes mailboxes and folders. Once a primary email account has been established, adding one or more email addresses is a quick finger swipe away. What's more, a gray toolbar pops up that allows the addition of multiple email accounts, which joins the separate accounts into a single unified inbox while keeping separate inbox folders available. Folders also can be customized for additional organization.

Sparrow's simplicity is matched by its lightning-fast response to touch. Every swipe and flick of the finger is followed by a quick transition to the desired screen. The blue and white color scheme and Sparrow's list feature are reminiscent of Facebook and Twitter, making for a familiar look and feel. Among its minor downsides, Sparrow cannot be used with Microsoft Exchange, nor does it support push notifications. However, it does support Google Apps, Yahoo, iCloud, MobileMe, AOL and custom IMAP accounts. It also syncs with Facebook so that profile pictures appear with the user's contacts.
