The Daily App: CardMunch For iOS

Some people might pay money to have their business cards entered into an address book by hand, but today’s Daily App does it for free.

From the developers at CardMunch, which was acquired by LinkedIn in 2011, comes CardMunch for iOS, a free app that photographs and sends business-card images to its back-end team for manual transcription.

To process a business card, simply press the camera button at the bottom of the screen, frame the card and snap the picture. Once an image has been accepted and sent, the CardMunch team receives the picture and manually transcribes the text. After about ten minutes, a push notification is sent to the phone with an alert that the transcription is complete.

Transcribed information can be edited, sent to LinkedIn, saved to the phone or deleted. There are also search, backup and sync functions that link with a free CardMunch Web account. Plus, contact direct links to email and invitations to join the business card user's LinkedIn network.
