Why You Should Care: TimeSight's appliances provide video lifecycle management, reducing the cost of storing surveillance data over time based on risk and business rules.

The Lowdown: Video surveillance is not just for convenience stores and jails. Companies from the enterprise level to SMBs have invested large amounts of money into video surveillance to protect themselves against theft, physical damage claims and to ensure compliance.

While the video surveillance market is poised for major growth, the cost of storing this data can be prohibitive, making companies think twice before investing in the technology.

That's where TimeSight comes in. The company uses a Network Video Recorder (NVR) system which automates video lifecycle management, lowering the size and cost of storing images but still providing high resolution and longer retention times.

The company lets customers choose how long they want to keep the video, which usually ranges from three to six months. The customer also chooses a time value risk: in other words, the first 24 hours of a video might be critical or it could be the first 48 hours. After that time the video will still be stored but compressed to save on storage costs. A video becomes more and more compressed over longer time periods to save even more storage space and lower costs.

TimeSight recently received funding from venture investors and is expanding its channel efforts, said CEO Charles Foley.

"We've added sales reps and channel managers recently," he said. "We're looking for someone in Canada. We really want to grow our channel."

Foley said that the company offers resellers good margins and provides discounts. VARs can also enroll in TimeSight's lead registration program where they'll get more advantages such as deeper discounts.

TimeSight also won't take orders direct from customers, Foley said. Although it's still young, small and hungry, the company is committed to looking out for its solution providers. The bottom line, Foley said, "We want to protect our partners."
