The Lowdown: There are firewall and network vendors. And then there are vendors that manage firewall and network policies. Secure Passage does the latter.

Despite the challenging economy, regulatory compliance mandates, such as PCI and HIPAA, have actually become more complex and stringent. And while many businesses are faced with mounting regulatory mandates, few are fully prepared to manage a barrage of complicated compliance policies.

Inevitably, executives say, those complicated policies result in access issues that prohibit users from doing their jobs. Secure Passage then steps in and addresses customers' firewall management problems, executives said.

Its flagship product, FireMon eVolution helps organizations -- primarily enterprises -- streamline and better manage their security policies. Recently Secure Passage infused its FireMon policy manager with an extensive list of new features, including a new PCI DSS Compliance Reporting Framework, traffic flow analysis capabilities, rule documentation, audit logging, rule usage consolidation and support for Juniper Networks' Network and Security Manager and Cisco Systems Access Control List support.

In addition to its flagship product, Secure Passage provides an array of service opportunities around auditing and compliance, which includes the distribution of a free PCI assessment tool to help customers determine and prioritize compliance requirements and make their processes more efficient, such as identifying unused rules and cleaning up complex firewall policies.

"They're not necessarily looking for the quick fix, but [we] at least give them the tools necessary. Doing it manually is simply impossible," Brazil said. "Customers known they need it. They just don't know there's a solution that solves their pain."
