Sony: No Plans For Further PS3 Price Cuts

"It's not going to happen. If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed," Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Nick Caplin told Reuters.

Sony had just slashed the price of the PlayStation 3 by $100 last month at the E3 Media and Business Summit, in response to price cuts by Microsoft to the Xbox 360.

The Leipzig Games Convention, Europe's largest video games convention, runs from August 20-24.

But despite price cut announcements last month for both the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360, it was the Nintendo Wii that dominated video game sales in July, according to a new report from NPD market research.

Video game sales in general are still a billion-dollar market.

Nintendo sold 550,000 Wii consoles in July, a slight decrease from its 675,100 June console sales. However, Nintendo's Wii console sales still put the company well ahead of Sony, which sold 224,900 PlayStation 3 consoles in June, a nearly 50 percent decrease from its 405,000 June PlayStation 3 console sales; and Microsoft, which sold 204,100 Xbox 360 consoles in July and 219,800 Xbox 360 consoles in June, according to the NPD reports for June and July.
