T-Mobile Sells Over 120,000 iPhones In Europe

By Brian Kraemer, CRN August 25, 2008
T-Mobile has sold 75,000 Apple iPhone 3Gs -- in Germany.

Launched on July 11th, the distribution of the 3G iPhone was slowed by distribution problems but the mobile provider has still managed to move 75,000 in Germany and 120,000 in Europe.

Hamid Akhavan, CEO of Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile International, said that the delivery problems being fixed and that backlog of customers waiting for faster iPhones would be cleared by the end of the month, Reuters reported.

Akhavan also added that the sales expectations of the 3G iPhone were "surpassed."

Akhavan went on to say that the problems with distributing 3G iPhones stems from the fact that Apple decided to launch the phone simultaneously in 22 different countries. In addition to selling 3G iPhones in Germany, T-Mobile also sells the mobile device in the Netherlands and Austria.

Since the iPhone launched over a month ago, customers have been complaining about long lines, dropped calls and slow service. Some customers have even complained that the getting onto 3G network " one of the biggest selling points for the latest version of the phone " is difficult, and that sometimes the phone will pick up the older, slower Edge network even while 3G connectivity is available.
