Apple's iPhone Firmware Update Jailbroken

With the new jailbreak update, iPhone users who already use a jailbroken phone with an earlier version of the firmware update can update their phone while preserving the older baseband firmware.

A jailbroken iPhone allows for more customization to the device than Apple might initially offer, but it comes with risks. Users who try to jailbreak their iPhone may "brick it," which renders it useless. However, reports of bricked iPhones have decreased the longer the device has been on the market.

One thing to note before using the DevTeam's jailbreaking tools is that some of the applications from the App Store may not be compatible with the iPhone after the firmware is jailbroken. Still, though, there are a number of third-party applications that only function on jailbroken iPhones that may make up the difference.
