Wozniak: Jobs 'Doesn't Sound Sick'

By Michele Masterson, CRN May 28, 2009
Apple CEO Steve Jobs is "healthy and energetic," according to Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple.

Wozniak made the comments to The Wall Street Journal at the paper's "All Things D" conference Wednesday.

The colorful former "Dancing With The Stars" contestant based his assessment on a phone conversation he recently had with Jobs.

"[Jobs] doesn't sound sick," Wozniak told The Wall Street Journal. Wozniak did say, however, that this was his opinion and he did not ask Jobs directly about his health issues.

Following months of speculation about Jobs' health, in January the Apple chief sent an http://www.crn.com/software/212900597 e-mail to Apple employees saying that he was temporarily stepping down from his post for medical reasons, but that he expected to return to the company in June.

"During the past week, I have learned that my health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought," Jobs said in the e-mail. Tim Cook, COO, was tapped to take over day-to-day operations at the company.

Jobs had assured employees that he planned to "remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out." But earlier this month he dashed the hopes of Apple aficionados when the company said that he would not be presenting the keynote speech at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8.

As for the Wozniak, he has retired his hot-pink feather boa and has taken on the role of chief scientist at storage startup Fusion-io.
