Where can a high-tech executive shine brighter than a Hollywood movie star? On Twitter, apparently.
Social networking was a hot topic Tuesday at the Cisco Partner Summit in Boston, with the microblogging site getting quite a bit of airtime during the keynote presentations from some of the vendor's top executives.
Global channel chief Keith Goodwin jump-started the conversation when he noted that he is blogging on Twitter (under the name @keitheg). In a humorous bit, Goodwin proudly announced that he has more than 400 followers on Twitter, only to be quickly upstaged by Cisco CTO Padmasree Warrior, who has amassed more than 475,000 (find her under @padmasree).
"That's more than George Clooney," Goodwin quipped, to which she responded, "It is more than George Clooney, but it's less than Oprah. I want to be Oprah."
It doesn't lessen the humor of the moment, but it's unclear whether the real George Clooney is actually on Twitter. Someone claiming to be the actor tweets under the name @gclooney61 and has just shy of 6,000 followers, so who knows? Talk show host Oprah Winfrey, by the way, is a verified Twitter user and has nearly 1.3 million followers, so, yes, Warrior does have to play a bit of catch-up.
But hey, her nearly half-a-million followers are nothing to sneeze at.
