Samsung Tuesday unveiled four compact camcorders, including the flip HMX-U10 that uploads videos directly to YouTube.
The HMX-U10 is the camcorder attracting the most attention, as it sends recorded video to YouTube via a one-touch button. The compact HMX-U10 -- which is 56mm x 103mm x 15.5mm and weighs 95 grams -- records in full HD with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. The camcorder also uses HMX-U10's CMOS sensor to take 10-megapixel digital still images, which can be previewed on the camcorder's 2-inch LCD screen.
The three other camcorders, the SMX-K40, SMX-K44 and SMX-K45, are part of the company's new K-Series that offer "near-full-HD- quality video" for the price of a standard-definition camcorder, according to Samsung.
All three models record standard-definition video at a resolution of 720 x 480. By using advanced upscaling technology and HDMI connectivity, users can connect the camcorder directly to their HDTV for near-full-HD playback. All three camcorders have a built-in HDMI output on the camcorder; an HDMI cable is sold separately.
In addition, the SMX-K45 has an internal 32-GB Solid State Drive (SSD), which provides up to 20 hours and 40 minutes of recording time (depending on the recording mode).
The SMX-K44 has an internal 16 GB SSD; the SMX-K40 does not have internal storage and requires an SD/SDHC card.
All four camcorders are slated for an August release but prices have not been announced.
