Sony's 80GB PS3 model is reportedly heading to the gaming graveyard to make way for the new PlayStation 3 Slim console, according to reports.
A listing for the new model appeared on Amazon's German site as the PlayStation 3 Konsole Slim, according to Engadget, which posted an image of the listing Friday. The product reportedly had an Amazon Identification Number (ASIN), and carried a price of 499 Euros. However, the listing has since been removed, leading some in the Blogosphere to speculate that it was user-generated.
On Monday, the Web site Kotaku posted what is said is a leaked memo from retailer 7-Eleven, which sells video games in Japan, saying it will no longer accept pre-orders for the black, white and silver 80-GB PlayStation 3 as of August 9. In addition, the memo said that in-store displays for the 80-GB model will be removed, making way for the new model, according to the site. Sony has already stopped making the 20GB, 40GB and 60GB PlayStation 3 models, which means that only the 160GB version is available.
And if you believe yet anotherrumor, Sony will reportedly make an announcement about the new Slim at the GamesCon conference later this month in Germany.
