While the Palm Pre wasn't tops in the most recent RBC/ChangeWave survey of
smartphone user satisfaction, it received its highest score to date, taking third place behind the Apple iPhone and the BlackBerry.
In the survey, first reported by the Brainstorm Tech Web site of Fortune magazine, the two analyst firms asked 200 Apple iPhone 3GS users and 40 Palm Pre users about their experience using their smartphones.
On the iPhone 3Gs side, 82 percent of users were "very satisfied" with their smartphone, while 17 percent were "somewhat satisfied," according to Fortune.
Of the Palm Pre users, 45 percent were "very satisfied," compared to 42 percent who were "somewhat satisfied," Fortune wrote.
About 48 percent of BlackBerry users were "very satisfied" with their smartphones, Fortune stated.
Users of the iPhone 3GS were most satisfied with the device's touch-screen interface, followed by its ease of use and its browsing speed.
However, 55 percent of those users faulted the AT&T network as their main complaint about the iPhone 3Gs, followed by Apple's old nemesis, the iPhone's short battery life.
Fortune also noted that Palm Pre users most liked the smartphone's touch-screen interface, followed by its multitasking capability and ease of use. The biggest dislike was the Palm Pre's short battery life, followed by its third-party apps and its media player.
