TomTom's navigational application can now be purchased through Apple's iTunes App Store, according to the Amsterdam, The Netherlands-based company.
The TomTom app for the iPhone 3G and 3GS includes a map of either the United States and Canada, Western Europe, or the U.K., with prices ranging from about $75 to $130, depending on location. The U.S. and Canada version sells for $100 on iTunes.
The application replicates TomTom's navigational features included in its GPS devices sold around the world, according to the company.
"With TomTom for iPhone, millions of iPhone users can now benefit from the same easy-to-use and intuitive interface, turn-by-turn spoken navigation and unique routing technology that our 30 million portable navigation device users rely on every day," said Corinne Vigreux, managing director of TomTom, in a statement.
The TomTom app for iPhone includes its IQ Routes technology that bases routes on the experiences that other TomTom drivers have used to calculate faster and more accurate arrival times, according to the company.
The app also includes a safety camera database, at least in 11 European countries, that notifies drivers of the locations of safety cameras on their route.
The app offers multiple display options, night and day color mode, 18 languages, and 2D or 3D map display.
There's no word yet on whether Homer Simpson's voice, downloadable for TomTom GPS devices since June, will be available on the iPhone app. D'oh!
