Dell was among the first Tier 1 PC vendors to announce it was taking orders for PCs and notebooks pre-loaded with Microsoft's Windows Vista, and it then announced it had taken "thousands" of orders for them. Vista PCs are available today.
But for those who bought Dell PCs months ago under the Round Rock, Texas-based vendor's Vista upgrade program, it's not as quick a conversion.
According to Dell's Lionel Menchacha, on the company's corporate blog: "We expect to begin shipping upgrade kits to customers within the next couple of weeks."
In October, when Dell announced its upgrade program, an executive said, "Before the Vista launch, our goal is to make it easy as possible for our customers to buy a system now and upgrade to Windows Vista when it comes out."
As an aside, Dell's quarter ends this week. The company has not yet scheduled an earnings announcement, however.
