AMD Pitching Its New Phenom
Many interesting discussions are taking place here, and Advanced Micro Devices' Gary Bixler met with several hundred solution providers and system builders this morning. He talked up Barcelona, AMD's channel strategy and the forthcoming "Phenom" quad-core processor for desktops.
(More on that later in the news section of this site.)
For hardcore baseball fans, the word "Phenom" may bring up memories of Clint Hurdle, who was pictured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1978 as that year's "Phenom."
Hurdle, if you're unfamiliar, played 10 forgettable, injury-plagued seasons and many believe he never reached the potential set out for him on SI's cover.
Bixler, though, said so far AMD has heard only great, upbeat responses to "Phenom."
And, for what it's worth, Hurdle is enjoying a nice second act in baseball, and is well-rgarded as manager of the Colorado Rockies.
