Meebo, the web site that combines several different instant messaging clients (including AIM, Yahoo, Google Talk and MSN) on one site, and which is backed by big bucks from Sequoia Capital and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, has launched an IM add-on for the Firefox web browser. TechCrunch's Erick Schonfeld reports:
If you use Firefox, you can now IM all your friends from a side-pane, and drag links to anyone on your buddy list. When you get a new IM, you get a visual notification (such as a blinking tab or a pop-up toast).
At the Meebo blog, it's explained that the company surveyed more than 11,000 of its users and found "79 percent said you use IM every day, 80 percent IM for an hour or more a day. 21 percent said they IM for 10 hours or more. Wow!"
That's a lot of use, and that's one more edge Firefox now has over Internet Explorer in the functionality department.
