Sharing is not always caring, especially when it’s an unknown virus transmitted through email. Today’s Daily App, VirusBarrier for iOS from security app developer Intego, is a $0.99 solution that assists in stopping viruses and malware from passing through an iOS device to a home Mac or PC computer.

According to the company, VirusBarrier uses an on-demand scanner to detect and eradicate threats before they can infect home and business networks and computers. The app can be used to validate, view and save any email attachments on the device or files from a remote location such as Dropbox. It detects viruses, worms, Trojan horses and all other known malware for Mac OS X and Windows.

Implementing VirusBarrier is a breeze. After launching the app it provides two options: add remote location -- which includes options of adding a website, FTP Disk, WebDAV Disk and Dropbox account -- and email attachment, which will scan an email once it’s been switched to the mail app and the desired attachment to be scanned has been chosen. Then simply hold a finger on the attachment and choose "Open in VirusBarrier" to commence the security scan. If the file is infected, VirusBarrier will repair it.

VirusBarrier includes the company's VirusBarrier X6 technology, which also scans ZIP archives and websites for known phishing URLs, Web threats and malware hosting. It scans files downloaded from Safari as well as files accessed by apps supporting inter-app file transfers. It also automatically updates malware definitions and completes scans in the background while maintaining a log of every scan -- not bad for less than a buck.
