The Daily App: Battery Level For Windows Phone 8

Windows Phone 8 is a pretty, efficient and fast-moving operating system. The new OS does have an annoying quirk or two, but today's app solves one of them. WP8 fails to give a precise reading of a phone's battery charge level on the home screen. It settles for a diagram that, while functional, falls short of the accuracy many users crave. Battery Level, exclusively for WP8, addresses that concern.

The free app (there's a paid version, but the free version is fully functional) allows a user to place a Live Tile on the home screen. This Live Tile could be set to any of the three customizable sizes for the operating system, and it will give an updated, exact read of the battery's charge and whether or not it is currently charging. In addition, Battery Level can be configured to display on the phone's lock screen.

The $0.99 version of the app adds a battery usage graph to the mix. It's meant to help a user map what time of day and, with extrapolation, what apps are punishing their precious battery life. The developer is Alex Golesh, a fledgling Windows Phone developer that has had a promising start.
