Google was gone yesterday. For a period of time—a half hour maybe?—I couldn't get to Google.com. So typically reliable is the search site, I figured I'd fallen off the Web altogether. Not so. Other sites—CNN, AP, CRN—were all up and running. Just not Google.
I gave up and moved on. But it turns out
Google WAS gone. The company attributed what it called a 15-minute outage to that old bugaboo: DNS problems. Some onlookers suspect foul play in the form of hacking, which Google denies.
Apparently gmail and related sites were also down.
The good news is that even though these items were found via Google on Sunday, Microsoft Search could probably do the job just as well.
