(Active Matrix OLED) An organic LED (OLED) display technology that drives each pixel separately. The typical AMOLED pixel uses two transistors and one capacitor. Contrast with a "passive matrix OLED" (PMOLED), which drives the pixels by row and column (x-y) coordinates. Active matrix OLEDs are the same concept as active matrix LCDs (AMLCDs), and PMOLEDs are like passive matrix LCDs (PMLCDs). See OLED, LCD, active matrix and passive matrix.
