A cloud computing platform from Google. Launched in 2008, Google App Engine provides Tier 1 Internet access to enterprises and developers. It requires applications to be written in Python or Java and also use Google's BigTable non-relational database and GQL query language, which is similar to SQL. Existing applications typically have to be modified to use App Engine. See cloud computing.
